Village Hall pleads ignorance

Capitan Village Clerk Kay Strickland, and her deputy clerk, Shirley, presided over the early voting to the March 4 election. Turns out, they didn't require signatures, against state election code, for those early votes. Turns out, those early votes heavily favored the incumbents, while the voting was much closer on March 4. Strickland told Judge Martha Proctor, who canvassed the vote, she just didn't know better. Turns out, Strickland and Shirley have both been to Election School. Of course, they know better. Is Capitan Village Hall perpetuating a cover-up of election practices? What's your take?

I feel like there's more to it than meets the eye. If they plead ignorance, it doesn't say much for their competency in handling village money and business. If they did try to sway the election, shame on them! Either way, this is just the kind of thing that keeps things stirred up, and continues to create distrust in this administration. They continue to do and say anything they want and then don't want to have to back it up or explain why they weren't right to begin with. It would be refreshing to hear just upfront and honest for a change.

Is it fraud out and out? I dunno. But a wise old cowhand once told me that if something walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, smells like a duck ...

Kay Strictland was in charge of a gas company where 10% of the gas taps were off the main books. There was wide spread talk of free gas and her little not for profit gas company was charging 75% more for gas than the for profit company up the hill. Of course the current administration wanted her for their book keeper.

When will you people say enough is enough? The gas company ripped you off to the tune of millions over the years. They passed laws that you had to buy their gas and you did nothing. The same guys that ran the gas company ran Carrizozo and were stealing water from the village for years. Wonder who was paying for that? Do you think it might have been the common working stiff? The same working stiff that paid for their gas to heat their houses for years.

Now the book keeper, who sent the bills out on that illegal criminal enterprises is running your elections, and when caught stealing the only thing you have left, your vote, you let her plead "ignorance". People that was a criminal act.

Is anyone awake down there? They steal your gas and reach into your pocket for years and all you do is whisper about it at the coffee shop. They steal water from you and say, "they should pay us back." They steal your elections and you say "the poor thing just didn't know better". She went to school and if she is that thick get rid of her. Why do you just turn your head and cough as they probe you? Why do you follow like sheep?

You have drugs sold openly in your streets, they steal from you like they have a license and it is their right. You have had burglaries one behind another, where are the cops and the Sheriff? While they walk off with your TV your cops are writing "seatbelt" tickets because they don't know the first thing about investigations.

You people are not corrupt so why do you allow the corrupt to lead you into the darkness? Show some backbone!

Perhaps when one is constantly pointing fingers at others, acting self-righteous and sanctimonius, it really does come back to bite them in the butt. Shirley Pavlovic has made many, many claims to perfection in her job, creating a convenient smokescreen for the reality of what was really going on. These two women have neither the intelligence or experience to be in the positions they hold, yet they can apparently wiggle out of irresponsible behavior by claiming ignorance while still claiming to be able to handle their jobs.

The law says if the ballot is not signed the clerk "shall" throw them out. What is the problem here if it is not a fraud? What is the problem with following the law in this state?

This is a criminal active just like what went on with that Gas company the clerk use to head up. Is this an on going criminal enterprise? Where is the FBI?

Great paper. An editor with a conflict of interest writing editorials against the group that defeated his wife.
